Another rememberance

I just wanted to take a little time to also remember, and respect, the passing of my paternal grandfather, Robert Ogbin. A year ago today he passed away...the last of four losses, and almost two months after the passing of his wife. He was the first one we expected to go, but was the last. I remember that it was hard to feel much sadder, after having gone through this feeling of loss three times already. And I also had hope at this point, as we knew that we were pregnant...that new life had sprung up in the midst of all the loss...much like new saplings push up from the earth after a forest fire. But I digress a little. I just wanted to say that I miss you, too, Grandpop. *sigh*

Happy Autumn

While I like all of the seasons in their turn, I think my all-time favorite season is Autumn. Although Spring is a pretty close second, and when I am sick of Winter, I definitely like it more than Autumn.

But, right now it’s September, and Autumn is being ushered in…so…Autumn is my favorite season. And today is the first day of Autumn. True, it’s not much different than yesterday (wetter) and won’t be much different than tomorrow, but it’s still the official start to Autumn. To brisk weather requiring light sweaters and hoodies and cardigans. To awesome woodsmoke smells and crisp wind scents (yes, wind has a scent when it is crisp). To red, orange, gold, yellow, and copper-colored leaves. To pumpkins and scarecrows and signs of harvest. To vivid blue skies and bright-white crisp-edged clouds. To chill breezes carrying smells of damp/drying leaves and hay in fields being prepared for Winter. To spiced drinks and hot teas and hot chocolate. To apple pies and pumpkin pies and…my favorite, pumpkin cheesecake. Yum! And to all the fall knitting that can be done, for now the weather is starting to become favorable to warm, knitted things. And that is truly something worth celebrating.

Happy Autumn, everyone!
